April 12, 2005  -- Web hosting provider Rackspace Managed Hosting (rackspace.com) had the most reliable Web hosting company Web site in the month of March, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com), the second consecutive month Rackspace achieved the distinction.

Rackspace outperformed its closest competition OLM, INetU and DataPipe. 1&1 Internet, Hostopia and Affinity Internet had the fifth through seventh most reliable sites, while British Telecom, EV1Servers and New York Internet filled out the top ten.

Of the top ten, three hosts run on Windows, two on FreeBSD and five on Linux, says Rackspace. Rackspace and OLM, the top two sites, both run on Linux. INetU has been in Netcraft’s top ten for 14 out of the last 16 months. DataPipe has been in eight out of the last ten months and New York Internet in five of the last seven.

Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of fifty leading hosting providers' sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen-minute intervals from eight separate points around the Internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24-hour period.
