Web hosting provider and domain registrar 1&1 Internet (oneandone.com) announced the availability of the .us domain on Monday.

Web hosting provider and domain registrar 1&1 Internet (oneandone.com) announced the availability of the .us domain on Monday. In conjunction with the announcement, European-based 1&1, which entered the US market in October of last year, said it would be offering a special introductory price of $2.99 per year for the .us domains. Existing .us domains can be transferred to 1&1 for the special $2.99 price during the two-month promotional period, the company said.

"We continue to see an overwhelming response to our service here in the US," says Andreas Gauger, CEO of 1&1 Internet. "Our ability to offer the .us domain - at a price far lower than what others charge - provides customers with a new option when considering and creating their Web presence. The low-cost availability of the .us domain is just one example of the value we provide our customers."

According to 1&1, the domain package comes with email and Web site forwarding and complete DNS management. The domains can be used with any of 1&1's hosting plans.

"Between the flexibility and affordability of the packages we offer and the novelty of the newly available .us domain, we anticipate this special summer offer will bring even more users into the growing 1&1 fold," says Gauger.

My personal experience is bad. I spent 2 hours listening to hold music today and never could reach a live person. My third package with 1&1 was ASP and they didn't offer all the typical components associated with ASP. When I asked them about it, they told me they could not add it. I am now moving all three of my sites to another host. Avoid them!
