RICHMOND, Va. (June 18, 2004) – bayMountain, the Central Virginia managed hosting and colocation provider, today announced it has signed a multi-year lease for a 15,000 square foot Tier 1 raised floor data center in north Richmond. This state-of-the-art data center was outfitted in 2001 at a cost in excess of $15 million. It is the most advanced of its type in the area.

At that time, Relera, Inc. invested in the building as part of a 12-city rollout, but fell victim to the dot-com burst before the facility could be fully utilized. bayMountain, well known as one of the most technically competent hosting companies, recognized a market need and opportunity within Virginia for large-scale, quality managed hosting and colocation.

“This facility will allow bayMountain to offer Central Virginia and Tidewater a local data center and hosting company that is on par with the best facilities found in Washington, D.C. or Raleigh, N.C.,” said Gene Wahnefried, CEO of bayMountain.

bayMountain’s Tier 1 data center is designed with N + 1 and N + N levels of redundancy, so no single point of failure can affect customers. The facility includes dual gigabit access to multiple OC-48 Internet backbone connections; four 500kVA UPS units; a 2MW Caterpillar diesel generator; automatic switching gear; 300 tons of environmental conditioning provided by 10 glycol-cooled computer room air conditioners and redundant cooling towers; internal and external security cameras; dual biometric hand scanners with a mantrap; locked cabinets and cages for equipment; 24/7 monitoring and management by the largest number of hosting engineers in the region.

bayMountain was founded in Richmond’s Advantech Business and Technology Center in 2000 and has grown to become Central Virginia’s premier managed hosting and colocation provider.  The company offers managed dedicated servers; advanced clustering and load balancing for high performance and high availability applications; managed firewall and network security protection; data backup and disaster recovery services; and 24/7 monitoring and proactive management of Internet-based infrastructures.
